Our Team
Sam Longman - Audiologist & Founder
Sam is a fully qualified Hearing Aid Audiologist and the founder of Alresford Hearing Studio. He is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) (registration number HAD02467), a member of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA) (Membership Number: 1002991), and a certified clinical ear care specialist.
Professional Background
Sam’s professional journey began with training at the renowned Mary Hare School for the Deaf, followed by extensive work in the private hearing care sector. During this time, he developed a reputation for clear, empathetic patient care and technical excellence. However, he also witnessed firsthand how corporate structures in larger chains often prioritized sales targets over patient outcomes, with rushed appointments and limited technology options tied to specific manufacturers.
Why Alresford Hearing Studio?
In August 2019, Sam established Alresford Hearing Studio with a clear mission: to create a space where people felt truly listened to, not just tested. As a fully independent, family-run practice, the Studio offers something national chains simply cannot – genuine choice from all leading hearing device manufacturers, unhurried appointments, and consistent care from the same qualified professional.
Clinical Expertise
As lead audiologist, Sam oversees all aspects of hearing care including comprehensive diagnostics, hearing aid fittings and adjustments, ear wax removal (including micro-suction), tinnitus management, repairs and reprogramming, and ongoing aftercare. He maintains direct relationships with leading manufacturers, enabling him to match each patient with technology that suits their unique hearing profile and lifestyle – never the other way around.
Philosophy of Care
Sam’s approach combines evidence-based practice with a patient-centered philosophy: no unnecessary upselling, clear explanations in plain English, and follow-up support that continues long after the initial fitting. He’s committed to community education about hearing health and preventive care, believing that informed patients make the best decisions about their own wellbeing.
Beyond the Clinic
Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time with his family and is passionate about all sports, particularly golf and football. He’s a keen supporter of Portsmouth Football Club and can usually be found either on the golf course, at Fratton Park, or enjoying time with loved ones when he’s not at The Studio.
Samuel James Green - Audiologist
James is a fully qualified audiologist, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) (registration number HAD005287), who has been an integral part of the Alresford Hearing Studio team since March 2021. He graduated from the South Devon University with a distinction in Audiology, bringing both academic excellence and a unique professional background to his hearing care practice.
An Unconventional Path to Audiology
Before discovering his passion for audiology, James spent a decade as a PGA golf professional, including time as a Professional Golf Instructor in Shanghai, China. While this might seem like an unusual career transition, James found that the skills he developed teaching golf translated remarkably well to audiology – patience, clear communication, the ability to break down complex technical concepts, and a genuine commitment to helping people achieve their goals.
Just as he once helped golfers improve their game through personalised instruction, James now helps patients rediscover the sounds they’ve been missing through tailored hearing solutions.
Clinical Approach
James is passionate about guiding patients through every stage of their hearing journey. Whether conducting comprehensive hearing assessments, performing earwax removal, servicing and adjusting hearing aids, or providing six-monthly review appointments, he takes the same methodical, patient-centred approach that made him successful in his previous career.
He understands that hearing care can feel overwhelming, especially for those new to hearing aids, and takes pride in making the process clear, comfortable, and even enjoyable. His calm demeanour and genuine enthusiasm for helping people hear the world around them has earned him excellent feedback from patients who appreciate his thorough explanations and ongoing support.
Commitment to Ongoing Care
James plays a vital role in maintaining the long-term relationships that define Alresford Hearing Studio. He ensures that existing patients receive consistent, high-quality care through regular review appointments, troubleshooting sessions, and hearing aid maintenance – because hearing care doesn’t stop after the initial fitting.
Life Outside the Studio
Outside of work, family time is James’s priority. He loves spending time with his two daughters, Mia and Poppy, and still enjoys getting out on the golf course whenever he can – though these days it’s purely for pleasure rather than profession.
